Each season we
have one or more crops of buckwheat in an effort to boost the caliber
of our soil, and to prevent weeds from growing while we are getting
ready to do something constructive. The first crop was planted in June, and here it is just nicely germinated.... pic taken June14th. It grew quite well due to the amount of moisture this year.... Same patch ~July8th.... By July21st, it was very high and in bloom.... This year Bill chose to use a scythe to cut the buckwheat ..... first two "swipes".... it looks easier than it is! A row cut down.... The whole hillside cut.... the smaller area just behind the new nursery bed is more recently planted. Back from the labour! Another crop will get planted in a few days(depending on the weather & the ambition!) |
